How does it work?

This Music Royalty Calculator uses average per-stream payout estimates from major platforms to give you a rough idea of your potential earnings.

Real-world payouts depend on your distributor, country, type of streams (free/premium) and individual platform deals.

How much can you earn from streaming?

Music streaming revenue varies greatly from artist to artist. Some key factors that affect your royalties:

  • Total Streams: The more plays you get across all platforms, the higher your total payout.
  • Listener Country: Streams from US, UK or Europe can have higher per-stream value.
  • Platform Type: Premium subscribers usually pay more per stream than free/ad-supported users.
  • Distributor Deal: Your agreement with your distributor or label affects how much of the royalty you actually receive.

Requirements to earn royalties from streaming

To receive regular royalty payments from streaming platforms, you need to meet certain requirements.
Distributor / Aggregator

Your music must be delivered to platforms via a distributor (such as DistroKid, TuneCore, CD Baby etc.) that collects and pays out your royalties.

Bank / Payment Info

In order to receive payouts, you must have valid payment information on file with your distributor or label (bank account, PayPal etc.).

Rights & Metadata

You must correctly register your tracks and make sure your metadata (songwriter, composer, ISRC, etc.) is accurate so that royalties are tracked properly.

Per-Stream Rate

This is the estimated amount paid per individual stream on each platform (in practice, this is calculated from a total pool of subscription and ad revenue).

CPM (Cost Per Mille)

For some platforms, payouts are also expressed as earnings per 1000 streams. The per-stream values in this tool correspond to an approximate CPM range.
